This year's competition is called "Rack 'n Roll". It is played with two alliances, one red, and one blue, each made of three teams. The three teams must work together to compete against the opposing alliance. The object of the game is to finish the match with a higher score than your opponent. To score, teams must place game pieces on the center "rack". The game pieces are red and blue inflatable tubes. Teams can also score at the end of the match if any robots are in their "home zone", and no part of the robot is touching the playing field.

Each match is 2 minutes and 15 seconds long. The first 15 seconds is an Autonomous period. During this period the robot runs with no user input, rather it is controlled by pre-programmed instructions. After the Autonomous period starts the Teleoperated period. During this period the drivers control the robot. The last 15 seconds of the match is known as the "End Game". The End Game is the same as the Teleoperated period, only robots are not allowed in their opponent's "Home Zone".
